PWP 2020 Annual Report Now Available

Pasadena Water and Power (PWP) has released its Annual Report for Fiscal Year (FY) 2020. For more than a century, PWP has been providing reliable, high-quality utility services to the residents and businesses of Pasadena; and in 2020 utility customers relied on PWP more than ever with many working and learning from home. This report summarizes the important achievements and significant progress towards future goals, while providing detailed data on the utility’s financial position. With the theme, “Always On”, the 2020 Annual Report demonstrates how PWP works to maintain service reliability, enhance customer experience, and creatively support and improve the City of Pasadena despite new challenges. PWP is here, “always on,” and sincerely grateful for the continued privilege of serving the community.

In FY 2020, PWP generated over $280 million in operating revenues, and invested more than $50 million in capital utility infrastructure improvements. PWP also contributed almost $17 million to support other City municipal services such as police, fire, parks and libraries.

Some of the key accomplishments highlighted in the 2020 Annual Report include:

  • The long-awaited Marengo Charging Plaza was completed in FY 2020 and is now open to the public. Developed through a collaboration with Tesla, the location is one of the largest public EV fast-charging plazas in the United States and supports ongoing transportation electrification efforts in Pasadena.
  • Improved water infrastructure and facilities, including near-completion of the Arroyo Booster Station replacement, which will improve operating capability, system reliability, and fire protection services of the water system.
  • Significant progress was also made on a major project to replace PWP’s aging Customer Information System, with four new contracts awarded during the year to support the recently-selected Oracle cloud-based solution.
  • Invested over $50 million in capital investments including system expansion, infrastructure maintenance and upgrades, as well as customer projects.
