Butterfly Garden Workshop

June 24, 2023 @ 9:00 am - 11:00 am

Pasadena Water and Power in Partnership with the Pasadena Public Library invites you to join a workshop to learn about planting Butterfly Gardens with native plants and preparing the soil for optimal health, including the benefits of Hugels and carbon for the soil.

"Where there is carbon in the soil, there is water. Where there is water in the soil, there is LIFE.”

The foundation of a healthy, functioning soil microbiome is the key to a thriving landscape. Yes…even with native plants. Since all “native” top soil has been erased due to overdevelopment, land grading practices and so much more, the focus of this workshop will be on ways to optimize soil to increase water-holding capacity, optimize water resources and of course…co-create a beautiful environment for both you and all living beings….butterflies and moths especially. We will also go over ways you can easily look up the best plants that support caterpillars, butterflies and moths…some of the most beneficial pollinators next to bees. The workshop will also include an opportunity to help install some new plants in the Butterfly Garden at the Hasting Library.
