Fair Oaks Water Main Replacement Project

A construction vehicle driving over a concrete trench in the street

Pasadena Water and Power is replacing two water mains on Fair Oaks Ave., one 8 inch and one 12 inch, that have been in service for more than 90 years. Both will be replaced by a 12-inch Ductile Iron Mainline Pipe to reinforce the reliability of PWP's water service. Work is set to begin near Washington Blvd. and Fair Oaks Ave. and proceed north over the course of a year. To minimize the impact of this project on residents and businesses in the area, construction efforts will be contained to approximately one block at a time. Construction will intermittently affect water service, but notices of any water interruption will be provided at least 48 hours in advance; special efforts will be taken to minimize customer inconvenience.

During construction, a variety of heavy equipment will be used including excavators, backhoes, loaders, and construction trucks. Temporary traffic control and detour signs will be posted at all times during construction. Most work will occur Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Please note businesses in the area will remain open and accessible during construction.

Timeline and Location

Construction will begin in March 2024 and PWP plans to complete the project by March 2025. The project affects the Fair Oaks Ave. spanning from Montana St. to Washington Blvd. Please reference the map below for the construction project location.
