2024 Scholarship Winners Announced 

PWP is proud to announce the two winners of the 2024 Educational Scholarship: Emmeline Clougherty and Londyn Sewell, both of John Muir High School.

Each year, PWP awards an academic scholarship to two high school seniors from Pasadena. First place receives $5,000, and second place receives $2,500. The program is open to high school seniors residing in PWP’s service area who plan to enroll as full-time students at an accredited, post-secondary institution in the following academic year. As part of the application process, students responded to a prompt about the future of electrification and were encouraged to consider the benefits and challenges as the world continues to become more electrified.

Emmeline Clougherty is the PWP Educational Scholarship first-place winner. Her essay explored the sustainable and reliable advantages of electrification in the community, and reflected on actions governments around the world, including Pasadena, are taking to incentivize citizens to be more thoughtful about electrification. Emmeline plans to attend the University of California, Berkeley in the fall to study environmental policy. Click here to read her essay.

Londyn Sewell is the PWP Educational Scholarship second-place winner. Londyn’s essay focused on the revolutionary impact the widespread electrification of vehicles and buildings has on our world, and how electrification offers transformative solutions for some of the most pressing issues we face. She plans to attend Michigan State University, where she will study communications to pursue a career in sports broadcasting and journalism/marketing. Click here to read her essay.

Scholarship Program

Each year, PWP honors two outstanding high school seniors in Pasadena with a first place $5,000 and another second place $2,500 educational scholarship to a two- or four-year accredited, post-secondary institution for the upcoming academic year. To apply, students must write a minimum 500 word essay about a topic related to the utility industry. 

Eligibility Requirements

  • Currently be a senior at a high school in the City of Pasadena; and able to provide academic transcripts.
  • Applicant must be a resident within the Pasadena Water and Power territory.
  • Applicant must plan to be enrolled as a full time student in a two- or four-year accredited post-secondary institution in the upcoming academic year.

2023 Educational Scholarship Winners - Dario Soatto and Anton Perez

The PWP 2023 Educational Scholarship first-place winner is Dario Soatto, a senior at Polytechnic School. Dario plans to attend Stanford University in the fall studying economics and political science. Click here to read his winning essay.

The PWP 2023 Educational Scholarship second-place winner is Anton Perez. Anton is a senior at Pasadena High School. He plans to attend the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he will double major in mathematics and philosophy. Click here to read his winning essay.
